Gerard Martin played a crucial role in Barcelona’s dominant 4-0 victory over Real Sociedad. Making his fifth start in La Liga, the young left-back opened the scoring with his first-ever goal for the senior team.
After the final whistle, he shared his delight, expressing how much it meant to him to contribute to such a significant win.
The moment the ball hit the back of the net, Martin was overcome with disbelief. His immediate reaction was to kiss the badge, a gesture that reflected his deep connection to the club.
This goal, however, carried a deeper emotional significance. Martin dedicated it to his late grandmother, someone who had played an essential role in his life.
“I couldn’t believe I had scored. I kissed the badge because it was my first sensation. Marc and I hadn’t scored for years. There were some jokes in the dressing room,” he began saying.

He also recalled a past conversation with a teammate who once told him that scoring would be an impossible task.
“I remembered a teammate who told me that it was impossible for me to score. Today I thought of them and, well, of my family, who were in the stands too.”
Another humorous detail emerged when Martin mentioned that Inaki Pena had promised to shave his head if he ever found the back of the net.
“Inaki told me that he would shave his head if I scored, but I don’t think he’s going to do it,” he revealed.
Meanwhile, Ronald Araujo marked his return to the starting eleven in La Liga with a commanding performance.
The Uruguayan defender justified Hansi Flick’s trust by delivering a solid defensive display while also scoring the third goal of the match with a well-placed header from a corner.
“Very happy, very happy with the game we played. The truth is that it was important to win today to put ourselves in the lead. Happy because the team has been doing a great job and we are in first place in La Liga.”
Personally, he was pleased to have contributed, especially after recovering from a long-term injury.

“I’m happy about the goal and about helping the team. I’m coming off a long injury. I’m pretty calm about going, I’m going to take it step by step.
“I have a lot of confidence in myself, in my characteristics and in what I can contribute to the team when I feel good. I’m happy to get some minutes and to help,” he noted.
Addressing the squad rotation under Hansi Flick, Araujo underlined the necessity of having a deep squad to compete for major honours.
He pointed out that a successful team cannot rely on just 11 or 12 players but must have strong options on the bench.
He praised the manager’s approach to ensuring that every player felt valued and prepared to make an impact when called upon. This depth, a
“To win the title we need to have enough players, not just 11 or 12, but a good bench. The manager also manages that very well.
“Everyone who comes in with confidence comes in happy and knows they can contribute to the team,” he concluded.
