Dani Olmo and Pau Victor were the only two additions to this FC Barcelona squad in the last summer transfer window, as the Catalans were unable to get more reinforcements because of their fragile finances.
Of these two players, Olmo has definitely been the more decisive, as he has already been one of the starters for Hansi Flick, and his contributions have also been key for the Blaugranes in some of their games.
However, he has had to miss a significant number of games due to physical issues, and he was unavailable for the last few games as well because of an overload in the soleus of his right leg that he suffered in the game against Getafe on January 18th.
Meanwhile, another important Barcelona player, Gavi, was also involved in a nasty incident in the last match against Alaves, as he had a head collision with an opposition player, following which both the players were subbed out, and also taken to the hospital for more tests.
In his press conference ahead of the Copa del Rey quarter-final against Valencia, Mundo Deportivo reports that Flick provided an update on the availability of these two players:
“Dani is an option for the second half. As for Gavi, there’s a protocol in place, and he’s not an option for tomorrow. Today, he trained separately, and it’s good to do this because the impact was very strong, also for the opponent, who suffered an injury as well.”
Further commenting on Olmo’s importance for his team, the Barcelona coach said:
“Dani has shown in many matches how important he is for us. He scores goals, and knows how to keep possession. It’s crucial to have players like him in the team, but we need to take care of him. He has suffered several injuries, but he also needs to play. We have to be cautious, understand how he feels, and adapt accordingly. He is very important for us.”
There is no doubt that Olmo can prove to be a key player for Barcelona in the second half of the season. However, he will have to ensure he remains fit when he is needed in the team to be able to contribute to their successes this season.
