La Liga president Javier Tebas has responded directly to recent criticism from Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick over the league’s fixture scheduling.
The German coach had expressed frustration after learning that Barça’s La Liga clash against Valladolid was scheduled for Saturday, May 3, just days before their crucial Champions League semi-final second leg against Inter Milan.
Speaking during the presentation of La Liga’s economic report for the 2023/24 season, Tebas made it clear that he is open to dialogue with Flick.
He said he would be willing to sit down with the Barcelona coach to explain the policy and process behind the scheduling of matches in both the First and Second Divisions.
“This house is always open to explaining our scheduling policy,” said Tebas.
“There is no discriminatory agenda. We manage an entire competition and we must take into account the interests of all clubs, not just one. It’s not about helping or hurting any single team.”

Tebas did not stop there. He also questioned why Flick chose to criticise La Liga rather than directing his frustration towards UEFA.
“Why is it always the national leagues that get the blame?” he asked. “Why don’t you complain to UEFA? That’s where the scheduling pressure comes from.”
He further explained that when scheduling league fixtures, La Liga must consider a total of 21 matches across two divisions.
“Our goal is to make the league as competitive and attractive as possible for everyone, not just for one or two clubs,” he added.
Tebas admitted that Flick’s comments were “very harsh” and stressed that the league’s objective is always to act in the best interests of Spanish football as a whole.
