FC Barcelona ensured a place in another final after beating Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey semi-final tie only a few days ago, but for now, they cannot think too much about this final.
This is so because in addition to the Copa del Rey, the Blaugranes are also competing for the La Liga and the UEFA Champions League titles, and they will have to win all of their matches to ensure they win all of these three big trophies.
Thus, Hansi Flick trained his team today focusing on the upcoming La Liga match against Real Betis, which is going to be anything but easy, keeping in view the form of the Verdiblanco team.
SPORT has made some observations from the training session that was held today, on Friday, which indicate Flick might be considering some changes in the starting eleven for this match.
One of the activities in this session was a small training match with two teams. One team was composed of players who are regular starters for Flick, and this team wore red bibs. The other team, which played without bibs, was made up of players who do not have as many minutes under their belt this season.
The former team was made up of Szczesny, Eric Garcia, Cubarsi, Balde, De Jong, Pedri, Yamal, Torres, and Lewandowski, while Raphinha and Fermin Lopez also played on this side with yellow bibs.
Thus, one of Raphinha or Lopez will start against Real Betis, while there are also some doubts in the defence. Araujo was expected to start this game, as Flick would be looking to keep Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez fresh for the UCL tie against Borussia Dortmund. However, Eric Garcia played with the regular starters in this session, raising doubts about Flick’s preferences.
Similarly, Gavi was also expected to start against Betis, but it remains to be seen what his role will be following the discomfort he felt in his knee ahead of the game against Atletico Madrid.
It also needs to be kept in mind here that there have already been differences between Hansi Flick’s preferences in training sessions and in the lineups for actual matches, so a definitive idea about the Barcelona starting eleven against Betis will only be obtained an hour or so ahead of the match.
