New Getafe signing Ilaix Moriba made use of the opportunity to reiterate his ongoing love for former club Barcelona on Thursday evening.
Midfielder Moriba, for his part, put pen to paper on terms with Getafe early last month.
Owing to his participation at the Africa Cup of Nations with Guinea, however, the 21-year-old, until today, was yet to make his way to Madrid to link up with his new teammates.
He was, in turn, unveiled to the media as the latest addition to José Bordalás’ squad a short time ago.
And Moriba, for his part, took his chance in front of the media to open up on the many ‘mistakes’ he has made to this point in his fledgling career.
The midfield starlet was just three years ago widely regarded as one of the standout talents in the youth ranks of La Liga heavyweights Barcelona.
Since departing for RB Leipzig in search of more money and playing time alike, however, Moriba’s career has taken something of a nosedive.
After a spell out on loan at Valencia last season, the opening half of the current term had seen the Guinean fail to secure even a single appearance back on the books of Leipzig.
In turn, Getafe swooped to bring him back to Spain once more.
And, speaking at his presentation as a new Azulones player on Thursday, Moriba admitted that such woes have come owing to his own poor decisions, the first of which, seemingly, came in the form of an exit from his beloved Barcelona:
“I have made mistakes in my life,” Moriba began, as cited by Diario Sport. “I have a great love for Barça, the club of my life. I made mistakes in the past and now I’m at a point where I want everyone to see the player they once saw.”
