Inter Player Ratings vs Parma: Mkhitaryan Architects Another Win

Inter comfortably dispatched top-flight newcomers Parma 3-1 at Giuseppe Meazza in the opening game of Serie A Gameweek 15. Despite taking 40 minutes to open the scoring, there was never a shred of doubt Simone Inzaghi’s side would claim three points.

After seeing an early penalty and an opening goal disallowed by VAR, Inter found a crucial breakthrough late in the first half through Federico Dimarco. The Italian wingback scored with his weaker right foot after exchanging a quick one-two with Henrikh Mkhitaryan to fire the Nerazzurri 1-0 up at the break.

Eleven minutes into the second half, Nicolo Barella doubled Inter’s lead. Mkhitaryan was the assist provider again, but the diminutive midfielder did all the heavy lifting before scoring with aplomb. Marcus Thuram landed a knockout punch in the 67th minute after being left unmarked inside the six-yard box.

However, Inter failed to keep a clean sheet as second-half substitute Matteo Darmian scored a sloppy own goal to set the final score. Without further ado, let’s look at our Nerazzurri player ratings.

Inter (3-5-2)

Yann Sommer – 6.5

Darmian’s poor attempted clearance wrong-footed the Swiss goalkeeper who didn’t have much to do, except for thwarting Matteo Cancellieri’s thunderous effort in the first half.

Alessandro Bastoni – 7

Despite lacking the usual sharpness on the ball, the Italian star held up his defensive end of the deal, neutralizing Parma’s attacking threat.

Stefan de Vrij – 7

Ange-Yoan Bonny is one of Serie A’s hottest prospects, but he had no chance against the Flying Dutchman. Spotless performance!

Yann Bisseck – 6.5

An avoidable booking cast a measly shadow on an otherwise solid display from the German youngster, showing he’s a worthy replacement for Benjamin Pavard.

Federico Dimarco – 7.5

In addition to his trademark delivery from the left wing, the highly-rated left-back found the net with a well-taken deadlock-breaker to set the tone for Inter’s scintillating triumph.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 7.5

It’s a pity he failed to score after zig-zagging past several Parma players midway through the first half. However, he notched up two assists, playing a crucial role in his side’s win.

Hakan Calhanoglu – 6.5

There’s not much to say about the Turkish ace’s showing other than his passing was spot-on, though he didn’t take risks in possession.

Nicolo Barella – 7

His electrifying presence in the middle of the park was Inter’s driving force this evening, while a world-class goal came as a fitting reward for his sublime display.

Denzel Dumfries – 6.5

An omnipresent threat on the right flank, the Dutch wingback completed countless overlapping runs but couldn’t crown his performance with a goal or an assist.

Marcus Thuram – 7

In the right place at the right time to hit double digits in Serie A this season, the French forward had a relatively quiet game before the goal.

Lautaro Martinez – 5.5

Since scoring from Thuram’s offside position, nothing went El Toro’s way as several uncharacteristic misses maintain the Inter captain’s wasteful spell in front of goal.

Substitutes

Tajon Buchanan – 5

Kristjan Asllani – 5.5

Joaquin Correa – 6
