Chelsea take on Ipswich on Monday night in their final game of 2024 and Kieran McKenna has been full of praise for Enzo Maresca in the build-up.

Maresca replaced Mauricio Pochettino in the summer and has made a brilliant start to the season, with the Blues currently third in the league just a point behind Arsenal in second.

The Boxing Day defeat to Fulham was just their third of the campaign and the Blues remain well on track to qualify for the Champions League.

McKenna full of praise for Maresca

The Blues head to Portman Road for the first time since 2002 looking to return to winning ways having failed to win either of their last two games.

There’s no need to panic with Chelsea in a very good position and Levi Colwill has backed the squad to respond well to the defeat to Fulham.

Chelsea will have to be aware of the threat of Liam Delap, who is a transfer target for the Blues, with Maresca full of praise for the striker pre-game.

Maresca knows his opposite number well having come up against McKenna in the Championship last season, and the Ipswich boss was full of praise for the job the Italian has done so far.

“Enzo’s done a really good job coaching them and getting them into the structure that he likes and turning them into a good team,” he said as cited by TWTD.

“I have to say, to be fair, the second half of last season, Mauricio had really good results there as well and you could see the talent that was there, you could see the talent was coming through, and they had really good results in the second half of last season.

“But I think Enzo’s taken that on to another level this year and he seems to have settled in very well.”

Chelsea have certainly moved to another level this season and a win would see the Blues move into second place in the league and would be a great way to round out 2024.
