Ruben Amorim looks to best Pep Guardiola for a third time this season

Ruben Amorim and Pep Guardiola meet for the third time this season as Manchester United host Manchester City in the standout fixture from the Premier League this weekend.

It can be argued that Man City’s need is greater as they are currently embroiled in an intriguing battle, alongside the likes of Chelsea, Newcastle and Aston Villa, for Champions League qualification.

Meanwhile Amorim’s United are all the way down in 13th in the table after suffering a 1-0 loss at the hands of Nottingham Forest in midweek and their hopes of European football next season realistically rest on winning the Europa League.

The first Manchester derby of the season came at a time with both teams badly out of form and it was the Red Devils who secured a comeback win at the Etihad Stadium to lift the mood among their supporters.

As a result, United will be out to complete a league double over their cross-city rivals and Amorim can register a third straight win against Guardiola this season having toppled the City boss in the Champions League whilst in charge of Sporting CP.

Here’s everything you need to know about the game...

Date, kick-off time and venue

Manchester United vs Manchester City team news

Man United’s injury issues eased during the international break with several first-team players returning to full training. Among those were Leny Yoro and Harry Maguire who both featured at the City Ground on Tuesday night.

The latter will be pushing for a start, whilst Rasmus Hojlund is pushing for a recall at the expense of Joshua Zirkzee after the Dutchman was ineffective at leading the line against Forest.

Man City are certainly without leading scorer Erling Haaland due to an ankle injury which means January signing Omar Marmoush - a scorer in his last three appearances - is likely to get his first taste of a Manchester derby.

Meanwhile, Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne will all be fresh having been unused substitutes in the 2-0 win over Leicester.

Manchester United vs Manchester City prediction

Recent history gives United the edge for this one. After all, they surprised many in last season’s FA Cup final by leaving Wembley with the trophy and then earlier in this campaign Amorim’s side came from behind to leave the Etihad with all three points.

Both sides are in decent form currently, but Amorim seems to have Guardiola’s number at the moment to mastermind yet another victory over the Spaniard.

Manchester United to win, 2-1.
