Lazio full-back Luca Pellegrini is once again eligible to play in Serie A as the club announces his reinstatment.
The 25-year-old served as Nuno Tavares’ understudy during the first half of the season, thus featuring regularly in the Europa League group stage. However, the Italian was excluded from the Serie A and UEFA squads in early February, with Elseid Hysaj replacing him on both lists. Lazio coach Marco Baroni attributed the decision to the player’s lack of commitment in training.
Nevertheless, the Juventus loanee has been working hard to return to the manager’s good graces. He also made an appearance in the Coppa Italia quarter-final against Inter Milan last month.

Luckily for Pellegrini, the Serie A regulations allow clubs to make a couple of changes to the list before the end of March, so Lazio have decided to seize the opportunity and reinstate the full-back, as confirmed by a statement released by the club’s official website.
SS Lazio announces the inclusion of Luca Pellegrini in the Lega Serie A list, replacing Patricio Gabarron Gil [Patric].
In recent weeks, the former Cagliari and Genoa player had been tipped to replace Toma Basic who has been occupying a place on the Serie A list but still hasn’t made an appearance this season. However, Patric underwent an operation earlier this week, which put an abrupt end to the campaign. Hence, ditching the Spanish defender became the obvious choice.
On the other hand, Pellegrini cannot be reinstated into the Europa League squad, as Baroni’s previous choices are binding for the rest of the season.
