Renato Gaúcho set to replace the sacked Rogério Ceni at Flamengo | OneFootball

Flamengo are reportedly moving quickly to fill the vacancy created after Rogério Ceni’s tenure as manager came to an abrupt halt.

The Rubro-Negro announced in the early hours of Saturday that they had parted ways with the 48-year-old.

“Clube de Regatas do Flamengo informs that it will not continue with Rogério Ceni in front of the main team,” a post on their official Twitter account read.

“The Club thanks you for your services and wishes you success in the next challenges.

“In the game against Chapecoense, the team will be led by Maurício Souza.”

According to Globo Esporte, Renato Gaúcho is being lined up to take over the reins at the Mengão.

The Brazilian newspaper reports that the former Grêmio boss will be installed imminently in order to be in the dugout for Wednesday’s Copa Libertadores clash with Defensa y Justicia in Argentina.

Ceni led Flamengo to the Brasileirão title last year, but was under intense pressure after a sluggish start to the current campaign that has left them languishing in mid-table after their first eight games.

He leaves after just 45 games in charge, during which he registered 23 wins, 11 draws and 11 defeats.
