Sevilla are in talks with Espanyol winger Nico Melamed ahead of a potential summer move, reports Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Rising through the ranks at Espanyol, Melamed has made steady progress with the first team in recent years despite the club’s decline.
The Spanish forward was one of the top performers for the Catalan club last season, netting a goal and two assists in 32 appearances, although he couldn’t prevent his side from relegation.
Having been dropped to the Spanish second tier, Melamed has been tipped to leave Espanyol this summer. His former teammate Joselu has already joined Real Madrid.
Espanyol midfielder Sergi Darder has also courted interest from Barcelona following his brilliant campaign.
Sevilla have kickstarted their summer business by appointing Victor Orta as their new sporting director following Monchi’s move to Aston Villa.
The former Leeds United man will be eyeing more reinforcements to get Sevilla back to the top end of La Liga, building on their 2022/23 Europa League triumph.
A squad shake-up is on the cards, with plenty of first-team stars linked with an exit.
Lucas Ocampos and Youssef En-Nesyri have courted interest from Premier League clubs, while Ivan Rakitic has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.
Nemanja Gudelj, who was instrumental in Europa League success, has penned an extension with the Andalusian club until 2026.
Sevilla are chasing sought-after Turkish talent Arda Guler, but their chances are slim due to his hefty package and the involvement of Madrid and Barcelona in the transfer race.
Melamed would be a good addition for Rojiblancos, but other clubs are trying to sign him.
