Despite falling to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Arsenal last night, Ruben Amorim undoubtedly has a handful of positives to take from the game’s affairs.

One standout silver lining was that Leny Yoro was finally able to make his competitive bow for Manchester United after being made to wait four months to take to the turf.

The £52 million summer signing featured for the Reds during pre-season before sustaining a metatarsal fracture in just his second appearance, requiring surgery to correct the issue. A lengthy period of rehabilitation followed, after which United were keen to ease him back into action in order to prevent any further setbacks.

Alas, Amorim and the club’s medical staff decided that he was ready to begin his season against the Gunners. Yoro entered the fray in the 59th minute with the aim of preventing any further damage – being 6’3”, he was able to properly vie with Arsenal from their deadly set-pieces.

Yoro featured for just over half an hour by the time Sam Barrott blew his whistle to signal full-time, yet recorded some truly remarkable statistics in the closing stages of the contest. Per StamanDave, the 19-year-old won 100 per cent of his aerial duels, registered an 86 per cent passing accuracy, won 75 per cent of his ground duels, won three tackles, dispatched two passes into the final third and made two clearances – a truly stellar showing from the renowned prospect.

He proceeded to earn praise from former Red Wes Brown on MUTV, who instantly gave Yoro his seal of approval when telling the panel: “When Leny Yoro came on, he was very good, by the way. Sharp and very athletic.

“I’m definitely looking forward to seeing a lot more.”

It remains to be seen if Amorim will deploy the youngster for Saturday’s clash with Nottingham Forest or whether he’ll manage his minutes with off-the-bench cameos for now.
