FLW's Hull City fan pundit has given his reaction to reports linking the club with a move for Blackpool striker Kyle Joseph.
This article is part of Football League World’s 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
Hull City are interested in signing Blackpool striker Kyle Joseph before the end of the January transfer window.
With Hull currently sitting in the Championship relegation zone, the transfer business done this month could be crucial to their survival prospects, and new head coach Ruben Selles will be looking to reshape his squad.
The Tigers have already brought in two new signings in January, with midfielder Matt Crooks making a permanent move from Real Salt Lake and striker Joe Gelhardt joining on loan from Leeds United, and winger Nordin Amrabat is reportedly set to be next through the door at the MKM Stadium.
Amrabat is unlikely to be the last of the new arrivals at Hull this month, and as FLW exclusively revealed earlier this week, Blackpool striker Kyle Joseph has emerged on the club's transfer radar.
Joseph joined the Seasiders from Swansea City last summer, and after scoring just two goals in 37 games last season, he has found a new lease of life this campaign, netting eight goals and providing three assists in 24 appearances in League One so far.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, the Tigers are preparing a £1.5 million bid for Joseph, but that could fall short of Blackpool's £2 million valuation, and manager Steve Bruce admitted it would take "a hell of an offer" to convince him to sanction the 23-year-old's departure.
When asked for his thoughts on the potential signing of Joseph, FLW'sHull City fan pundit Ryan Frankish urged the Tigers not to pursue a deal for the Blackpool striker, questioning whether he would be capable of being the prolific goalscorer the club need.
"I wouldn't say Kyle Joseph is a negative, I just think with us going in for Joe Gelhardt and him coming in, there isn't any need for this transfer," Ryan said.
"I know we're looking forward to the future, but it seems like we've got the grafter up front now in Gelhardt for this season.
"We've also got Joao Pedro, fair enough he can't play every game, but I think we need someone prolific, we don't need another filler striker who is going to do the donkey work for Joao Pedro, so I'd probably say steer clear of it to be honest."
Hull have made almost 20 signings this season across the summer and January transfer windows, and in truth, few can be considered as a success at this point, so they must be careful about making further mistakes this month.
Joseph has enjoyed an excellent first half of the season for Blackpool in League One, but it is the first time in his career he has shown this kind of form, so he would be a risky signing for the Tigers.
There is no doubt that the former Scotland youth international is a player with a lot of potential, and he may be viewed as one for the future by Selles, but having already signed one striker who is not particularly prolific in Gelhardt, there are big question marks over whether Joseph would be able to score the goals needed to keep Hull in the Championship this season.
