We are truly in the thick of the NWSL season now and we had two more games to sort through Saturday evening. Let’s get into it.
Washington ran up the score as they cruised past Angel City at home. Four first-half Spirt goals was more than good enough for the hosts runaway with three points and fend off any late push.
Meanwhile, league leaders KC Current saw their victory slip away thanks to 103rd minute equalizer from Savannah DeMelo.
A stoppage time leveler is as sweet as they come.
Top of the tree, and an arsenal of attacking talent at their disposal. Now thats what you call spreading the wealth.
The Spirit’s emphatic victory sees them move into second, just three points behind the Current but the two teams could trade places on-and-off in the remaining weeks of the campaign. Meanwhile, two straight losses means Angel City will end the weekend outside of the playoff spots.
The Current are setting the pace but conceding in the 13th minute of stoppage time to drop two points will be seen as a crushing blow.
The NWSL fixtures are not done yet this weekend. Sunday sees Gotham host Chicago while Seattle will host an Orlando side looking to overtake Kansas City at the top.
