Real Madrid are already preparing for life after Carlo Ancelotti, with Xabi Alonso expected to take over as manager once the season ends and the FIFA Club World Cup is wrapped up.

According to a recent update from AS, Alonso has already made it clear to the club which three players he wants to build his new project around—Martin Zubimendi, Florian Wirtz and Jonathan Tah.

While nothing has been officially confirmed yet, there is growing belief inside the Madrid camp that Alonso is ready to take the next step in his managerial career.

The Spaniard is fully aware of the club’s interest in appointing him, and he has wasted no time outlining his vision for the squad.

Zubimendi and Wirtz targeted

Alonso’s top priority is strengthening Madrid’s midfield and attack and Zubimendi is seen as a natural successor to Toni Kroos.

The 26-year-old offers composure, passing accuracy and control in midfield—qualities Madrid have lacked at times this season.

His €60 million release clause is considered manageable by the club, but the fact remains that he is also wanted by Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Wirtz is another name Alonso has placed high on his wishlist. However, signing him will not be easy.

Bayer Leverkusen are expected to ask for a fee in excess of €100 million, and Madrid will also face competition from Bayern Munich. If Wirtz arrives, it could mean the departure of at least one player from Madrid’s current front line.

Jonathan Tah deal still open

The third name on Alonso’s radar is centre-back Tah. The powerful German defender had reportedly reached a pre-agreement with Barcelona. But recent changes at the Catalan club have cast doubt on the move.

Tah’s familiarity with Alonso from their time at Leverkusen makes the defender an obvious target, and Madrid could swoop in if the opportunity presents itself.

With these three names, Alonso is already shaping his vision for a more balanced and dominant Real Madrid. Whether the club can pull off all three signings remains to be seen, but the message is clear—if Alonso comes in, changes will follow.
