Ruthless Miedema saves Arsenal

Scorers: Beerensteyn 52′; Miedema 61′

Vivianne Miedema’s second half header was enough to see Arsenal claim a 1-1 draw away at Juventus.

Arsenal travelled to northern Italy looking to maintain their 100 per cent start to Group C.

They would have to do so though, without Beth Mead who was missing after her ACL rupture at the weekend.

It was the Gunners who looked most likely to score in the first half as Stina Blackstenius rattled an effort off the crossbar.

Into the second half and Lotte Wubben-Moy had a gilt-edged chance to give Arsenal the lead but her header was cleared off the line.

And then moments later Juve broke the deadlock.

A stunning counter-attack from the Italians saw Lineth Beerensteyn charge into the area and finish into the bottom corner.

That lead didn’t last long though as Vivianne Miedema headed in from a corner.

Benfica claim first UWCL win

Scorers: Lacasse23′

Benfica showed their class on Thursday night as they beat Rosengard 1-0 to claim their first Champions League win of the season.

This was a best of the rest in Group D as the bottom two sides met in the Portuguese capital.

But it was the home side who took the lead on 23 minutes as Cloe Lacasse netted from close range.

Barcelona thrash Bayern in style

Scorers: Geyse 47′, Bonmatí 59′, Pina 67′

Barcelona maintained their perfect start to the Champions League campaign by easing past Bayern Munich in front of another huge Camp Nou crowd.

In front of a record group stage attendance of 46,697, Barcelona finally broke Bayern’s resistance three minutes after half-time when Geyse stooped to head in via the post after a flick across goal.

Shortly before the hour mark, Aitana BonmatĂ made it two with a neat near post finish after a quick cut back.

The best of the lot was saved for last when a fantastic team move was finished off by ClĂ udia Pina curled in a glorious strike from the edge of the area for the third and move them onto nine points from nine.

Lyon boost hopes with big win

Scorers: Malard 4′, Bruun 35′, 66′

Lyon gave their ailing Champions League hopes a shot in the arm with a 3-0 victory over ZĂĽrich.

Lyon hit the front on four minutes when ZĂĽrich were made to pay for a poorly-conceded corner by failing to deal with the delivery when it arrived, allowing Melvine Malard to nod in from close range.

Signe Bruun doubled the advantage before the break when a square ball across the goal and she took a touch to steady herself before firing into the empty net.

On 66 minutes, the French side made sure of the three points as Bruun grabbed her brace by prodding home with the outside of her boot after a knock-down in the area.

That is their first win of the group stage and they move on to four points, level with Juventus who play Arsenal.
