Chelsea beat Tottenham 1-0 at Stamford Bridge last night, and speaking after the game manager Enzo Maresca was full of praise for some of his individual players.

One stood out in particular – we’ve all been counting the games until Nicolas Jackson returned from injury because of what he brings to this team, and he showed that off last night with a superb performance immediately upon his return.

The whole team changed with his presence, as Maresca pointed out:

“With Nico we are a different team. Because he is a threat always in behind, off the ball he is aggressive. And I think tonight, once again he showed how good he is for us,” the manager said.

Asked about his work rate specifically, Maresca had even more to say:

“Absolutely, if you think he was almost two months without games, without minutes, it’s something unbelievable, the performance was top.

Another part of the team picked out for praise was the midfield, which ran the show. Moises Caicedo broke down Spurs attacks while Enzo Fernandez got us moving forwards. The Chelsea TV interviewer asked for Maresca’s thoughts on that part of the team, but he ended up just praising everyone:

“Yeah Moi was once again top tonight. I think Enzo was in the right position again arriving in the box. Trevoh Chalobah was also top… Levi very good. Malo very good. I think it was a complete performance from all of them.”

This was the sort of morale boosting performance we needed after a bad results against Arsenal followed by a long break. It’s great for Maresca to be able to spread the praise around.
