The Bhoys star started for Denmark in the 5-2 loss against Portugal, who reached the Nations League semi-final.

During the extra time of the match, he picked up an injury, but Denmark ran out of substitutions, and he carried on until the end.

According to a report from BT, the Celtic keeper was taken to a hospital in Lisbon for further examination.

He was holding his shoulders in pain as he received treatment, and apart from that, the details of the injury are unknown.

Celtic fans hope the injury is not serious

Schmeichel has made 30 starts in the Scottish Premiership this season, and he is invaluable to Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Goalkeepers usually have a long career, and Schmeichel gives the impression that he can carry out for at least a couple of years before hanging his boots.

During the game, Schmeichel saved from a penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo, and proved his class once again.

The Danish star has a contract at Celtic Park until 2026, and it will be interesting to see if Celtic offer him a new deal to extend his stay.

Celtic fans will be hoping that his injury isn’t too serious.

What the Denmark national coach said about the Celtic star’s injury

Denmark coach Brian Riemer didn’t give away the exact details of the injury and only informed the press that the Celtic goalkeeper is undergoing an examination.

He said: “He is undergoing further examination with our doctor right now. I don’t know where they are exactly, says the national coach shortly before 1 am Danish time.”

“I would have 100 percent replaced Schmeichel if I had more substitutions, because he was injured. When Portugal scored 4-2, I replaced Conrad Harder so that he could score a goal, and then I had to hope that my goalkeeper didn’t get injured, but he did.”
