The game had started brilliantly for Kasper Schmeichel, as he saved a penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo. How many goalkeepers in history can say that? But after that, it was all downhill for the Celtic goalkeeper. Denmark ended up losing 5-2 to Portugal on the night, while the veteran picked up an injury as well.

Schmeichel appeared to injure his shoulder in the first half of extra-time. But Denmark had already used up all their substitutions and as a result, the goalkeeper decided to carry on despite the injury.

It remains to be seen how serious it turns out to be. Celtic fans will be hoping that Schmeichel did not make matters worse by opting to play on through the pain.

As reported by Bold, Schmeichel went for further examinations at a hospital in Lisbon together with the national team's doctor, Morten Boesen. It was to learn more about the extent of the injury.

Schmeichel has been Celtic's number-one option between the posts since arriving in the summer. So, the fans will be hoping that the issue is nothing serious and that he is back available as soon as possible.

But if that is not the case, then Celtic will most likely rely on Viljami Sinisalo to take his spot between the posts. The youngster was signed in the summer and has not gotten much of a look. This might turn out to be his chance to prove himself.

Of course, Celtic also have Scott Bain. Many might have forgotten that as he has not played a single minute of football so far this season. Not only that, he has not even made the bench in the league. Could he be brought back from the cold in order to fill Schmeichel's place in the team?
