Vincent Kompany has been proactive in rotating center-backs during the second half of the season. The Belgian coach’s hands have been forced due to minor injuries to Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano. Eric Dier has benefitted from this rotation as he has got more opportunities to start for Bayern Munich in Ruckrunde than he did in the first half of the campaign.

Dier has made the most of these opportunities and delivered solid performances for Bayern. The English defender is already one of the popular names in the dressing for working hard in the training irrespective of what is his situation in the squad.

Considering the way first half of the season went for Dier, it looked certain that he will leave Bavaria in the summer. The English defender will become a free agent in the summer. He may still end up leaving, but recent performances may have an impact on the club’s decision.

According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern are not ruling out a contract extension for Dier. The final decision from Die Roten may come at the end of the season as the club is set to hold talks with the English center-back in the coming weeks.

Dier eager to stay in Munich

Sky Sports has also reported that Eric Dier is eager to stay in Munich. He has been a fine signing for Bayern. After arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in January 2024, Dier quickly cemented a place in the starting XI under Thomas Tuchel. Dier ended up activating the option to extend his contract until the end of the 2024/25 campaign, courtesy of playing a significant number of games during Ruckrunde.

Dier is already attracting interest from the Premier League. He will not be short of offers in the summer considering how he has played for Bayern in the last 18 months.

Bayern are likely to offer him a one-year contract if he continues to do well on the pitch. A strong end to the campaign may certainly guarantee Dier game time in front of Allianz Arena next season.

From a long term perspective, Bayern will look to sign a young defender in the summer. They have been linked with several young central defenders over the last few months, which suggests a good chunk of the summer budget may go into bolstering the defense. Dier may become a fifth choice defender next summer. However, a player of his mentality and professionalism is good to have around the squad for one more season.
