Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he expects Greg Taylor to leave the club this summer. The Scotland Internationalist’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign and despite attempts to agree a new deal, Rodgers believes it’s more likely he’ll leave than stay.
Speaking after Saturday’s resounding win over Hearts, Rodgers detailed that the decision wasn’t a financial one but that he understood Taylor’s motivations.
The Irishman was full of praise for Taylor, who has been an incredible servant at the club for six years. Rodgers has made it clear that he wants him to remain at the club but it has been clear that this would be difficult. At 27, Taylor is probably wanting a lucrative, long term contract and a new opportunity, having enjoyed domestic dominance at Celtic.
Taylor was an unused sub in Celtic’s 3-0 win over Hearts as Jefferey Schlupp completed another 90 minutes in the Hoops. With Tierney arriving, Schlupp will likely be attempting to play and earn a contract with the Scottish Champions. The manager remarked that whoever comes in alongside Tierney will get a lot of games and Schlupp would secretly provide ample cover for the current Arsenal defender.
