Three Championship sides that could be on high alert if Daniel Farke leaves Leeds United
Leeds United are weighing up the future of Daniel Farke as manager after promotion to the Premier League was confirmed on Monday.
According to the Daily Mail, there are concerns over the German’s record in the top flight, leading to consideration over his position.
Farke has been in charge at Elland Road since the summer of 2023, and led the team to a third place finish in his first campaign in charge, missing out on promotion with a play-off final loss to Southampton.
The Yorkshire outfit have gone one further this year, securing a top two spot with two games remaining.
Here we look at three EFL clubs that will be on high alert if Farke is dismissed by Leeds…
Southampton are without a manager following Ivan Juric’s departure earlier this month.
The Saints will be back in the Championship next season, and will be eyeing promotion straight back to the Premier League.
Farke could be an ideal appointment for the south coast club, as he will bring the attacking style of play that Russell Martin also succeeded with to get the club back to the top flight in 2024, at the expense of Leeds.
The German’s experience in this division will surely have a lot of teams on notice, but Southampton could be an attractive proposition given their resources compared to the rest of the second tier.
While it remains to be seen how the squad will shake up after the summer, the opportunity to work with Cameron Archer could also be appealing after Leeds attempted to sign the forward last January to aid their own promotion battle.
West Brom are another Championship side looking for a new manager after Tony Mowbray was dismissed earlier this week.
The Baggies are a big club with a history of sustained Premier League football in the recent past, and their relatively new owners, led by Shilen Patel, will want an ambitious coach that can deliver that for Albion once again.
Farke has now gained promotion from the division three times, having also done so twice with Norwich City, making him an appealing target for someone like West Brom.
The 48-year-old’s attacking style is also one that fans can get behind, and should be suited to the squad already at the club’s disposal.
Players like Josh Maja, Daryl Dike and Mikey Johnston could thrive under Farke at the Hawthorns.
Michael Carrick’s position at Middlesbrough is under scrutiny after a disappointing second half of the campaign.
While the former midfielder’s enjoyed strong spells at Boro, inconsistency has plagued their attempts to gain promotion.
If the Teesside outfit are going to make a change, then someone like Farke would be the ideal replacement.
Carrick is inexperienced as a coach, with this being his first role in management, and that has been costly in recent seasons.
Bringing someone in like Farke could be the real difference-maker between finishing just outside the play-offs and finally being able to push for a top two position next season, and the squad is strong enough that major investment wouldn’t be needed if he came on board.
