Leeds United could turn to Como boss Cesc Fabregas if they decide to sack Daniel Farke despite their promotion.
Como boss Cesc Fàbregas is a potential candidate for Leeds United if they decide to sack Daniel Farke this summer.
Even though the German has taken Leeds back to the Premier League, with promotion secured on Monday, there are major doubts about his future, amid concerns about his record in the top-flight.
And, in a fresh development, TBR Football has claimed Fabregas could succeed Farke at Elland Road if he is sacked.
The update explains that the hierarchy at Leeds were always going to assess the situation at the club this summer, even if they did win promotion, and Fabregas has caught the eye.
The former Arsenal midfielder was only named as Como head coach last year, but his first full season in charge has gone very well, as the newly-promoted side sit 12th in Serie A, although it should be said that he did receive financial backing to strengthen the squad.
It’s said that Como are confident Fabregas is committed to staying at the club, and Leeds could face competition for the 37-year-old, as he is thought to be on RB Leipzig’s radar.
Many will think it’s ludicrous that Leeds are thinking about sacking a manager who has won promotion, especially as Farke’s side could hit the 100-point mark this season.
But, for 49ers Enterprises, this is just the first step, and the long-term aim is to make Leeds a force in English football once again.
With that in mind, if they think they can do better than Farke, they are right to explore their options, and ultimately it’s about doing whatever is required to bring success to Elland Road.
Whether Fabregas is an upgrade on Farke is certainly up for debate, though. He has done well at Como, but he remains very inexperienced as a manager.
Meanwhile, Farke has been in the top division in England and Germany, and he has the backing of the players at Leeds, along with the supporters.
Some will point to his record at Norwich in the top-flight as a concern, but they didn’t have the resources to compete, which isn’t the same as Leeds. So, it will be hard to find someone who is a definitive upgrade, and it would certainly be risky for the hierarchy if they did make such a decision.
The immediate concern for Leeds is to try and beat Burnley to the Championship title, and a huge summer then awaits, and it will be intriguing to see who is in the dugout for their Premier League opener in August.
