Jadon Sancho could reportedly end up back at Manchester United with Chelsea said to be considering paying an exit fee to not sign the winger.
The 24-year-old is currently on a season-long loan deal at Chelsea, who have an obligation to buy him permanently in the summer for £25m.
But various reports suggest doubts have emerged over whether the Blues want to sign him on a permanent basis.
Sancho started well following his move to Chelsea in the summer but has not scored since December.
He has found himself in and out of the starting 11 under Enzo Maresca though has started the last three Premier League games.
And Chelsea could reportedly get out of their obligation to buy Sancho by paying a fee to United, according to the Independent, which would be a sizable chunk of the agreed £25m transfer sum.
Sancho was frozen out at Man Utd under former boss Erik ten Hag and has played just once for the club since August 2023, coming off the bench in the Community Shield defeat to Manchester City before he joined Chelsea on loan.
Enzo Maresca, speaking in January, praised Sancho for his impact at Chelsea: “For me he’s doing very well,” he said.
“I am quite surprised with Jadon, because I knew Jadon already [from seeing him at his previous clubs] and I know what I expected from him, but in terms of being consistent, he’s doing very well.
“Apart from a short part of the season when he had some problems, when he was out ill, then for the rest he has been very good.
“I expected him to do well, but for all the players doing well for a long period is not easy, and he has been doing well for a long period already. He’s doing well, now he just needs to continue going in that way.”
ESPN say that United boss Ruben Amorim will be given the final say on whether he wants Sancho to be part of his squad should he return in the summer.
