Mike Tullberg on the verge of LEAVING Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund U19's coach, Mike Tullberg, has reportedly ruled out extending his contract with the club. Even though talks are expected between Tullberg and CEO Lars Ricken in the coming weeks to discuss a new deal, a separation is currently the most likely scenario, as reported by Ruhr Nachrichten BVB. A decision on Tullberg's future will be communicated after the end of this season.

Mike Tullberg is a Danish former player who has been working as a youth squad manager since the 2019/2020 season. Tullberg was first named manager of Dortmund’s reserve team, which typically competes in the 3. Liga. Following his success, Tullberg was promoted to U19 manager, where he led the squad to the U19 Bundesliga title in 2021 while taking them to subsequent finals in 2023 and 2024.

After Nuri Sahin's mid-season dismissal, Tullberg coached the first team for three matches, where he managed to stay unbeaten with two wins and one draw. From those matches, the Dane also had his first Champions League win of his career, beating FC Shakhtar Donetsk by 3-1 at the Signal Iduna Park. It was a lovely spell as an interim coach before the Niko Kovač Era began.

With his likely departure by the end of the current season, Tullberg showed tremendous potential as a manager, and he will probably continue his journey in professional football and pave his path to maybe coach in the Bundesliga again one day. Since he beat Shakhtar in grand fashion, I became interested in his approach, character, and adaptability under challenging circumstances, as when Sahin left. Hopefully, he can develop his managerial skills to come back to the Westfalenstadion (probably what Sahin should have done before assuming the first team at once).
