It is no secret that Celtic fans want to see the club show some ambition in the summer transfer window and make moves for some experienced and proven players. In order to sign such names, it often takes big fees. The kind of figures that might be out of the Hoops' reach. But there is definitely an opportunity to bring in those who are available as free agents.

Celtic could need to sign a striker in the summer. They never really replaced Kyogo Furuhashi, when he left in order to join Rennes in the last winter transfer window.

Instead, Daizen Maeda was moved into a more central role while Jota took his place on the left. Admittedly, that has worked well. But at the same time, it is important that Celtic bring in a third option up top.

Could Callum Wilson be the solution to their problem? As reported by The Celtic Way, Andy Townsend told BoyleSports:

"Callum Wilson is out of contract in the summer and I could absolutely see him at Celtic, I think it could be ideal for him."He is on a free transfer but could still get a significant wage, the one problem is if he can stay fit enough to have the impact on the team he and the club would want."At Celtic he could play 25 games and win the league, he has experience and has been around a long time, when he plays he looks good it’s just the injury concerns."A move to a club like Celtic would make a lot of sense for him, he could help Adam Idah with his experience, but he would need to be able to play 30 times in all competitions from Celtic’s point of view."I think the move would work if that was the case, otherwise Celtic may look elsewhere."

Wilson's current deal with the Magpies is believed to be running out at the end of the season. That means that he is set to be available as a free agent unless he ends up signing an extension with the League Cup winners.

Wilson is a proven striker at the Premier League level. Even though he has had his fitness issues over the years, someone like him could prove to be a very good addition to this Celtic team.

It remains to be seen if the Hoops do end up making a move for him or not. Celtic rarely go out and spend big transfer fees to sign veteran players but they are more than open to bringing them in as free agents, as we have seen with the likes of Aaron Mooy, Kasper Schmeichel and Jeffrey Schlupp in recent times.
