FLW lists the R’s players who are set to depart Loftus Road for free at the end of the season.
Queens Park Rangers rallied after a dismal start to the season under Marti Cifuentes.
The West London club had deep concerns about relegation down to the third tier, and while Championship safety isn’t confirmed yet, they are one of the less likely candidates to fall into the dreaded League One trapdoor.
There is still some work to do for the Hoops in order to establish themselves in the Championship for an 11th straight season, but there is hope the R’s have enough quality in the ranks to steer themselves away from any danger.
Once safety is confirmed, QPR will be planning their preparations for next season in the summer transfer window, with a number of first-team figures set to leave when their contracts run down at the end of the season.
With this in mind, Football League World lists the QPR players who are set to depart Loftus Road this summer as their deals run down.
Attracting plenty of interest from Sheffield United in January, QPR managed to keep the Blades from nabbing their star defender, with Jimmy Dunne being an integral part to Cifuentes’ rise up the Championship table.
At 27, Dunne will have aspirations of playing at the top level of English football, and a move to Sheffield United on a free transfer could come to fruition in the summer – particularly if the Yorkshire outfit secure their place in the top-flight.
Impressing regularly over a consistent period of time, QPR should go all out to convince Dunne to sign a new deal, but this could be the perfect opportunity for Dunne to move on to a fresh challenge.
Kenneth Paal, likewise, to Dunne, is also out of contract at the end of the season, becoming an ever-present figure for the R’s on the left side of defence.
Available on a free transfer, many Championship rivals could be tempted to approach Paal, having proven his quality since his arrival, and QPR should put a stop to it by extending his stay as well as adding more competition to the area to help raise the standards of his game further.
Forward Michael Frey is another player to have his contract running down this summer. The Swiss attacker arrived in London in January 2024 and has proven to be a key player with his physical attributes, being a dominant force when transitioning the R’s up the pitch.
While he hasn’t always been a first-team figure, Frey has shown he can have a positive influence on the squad, and QPR may be tempted to extend his stay for another year.
An experienced head in the backline, Steve Cook could depart Loftus Road at the end of the campaign.
Standing strong in the second tier at the age of 33, Cook has still been consistently used by Cifuentes since 2023, using his leadership qualities to keep the backline as solid as possible.
Provided Cook can keep himself fit on a regular basis, then the R’s should be considering keeping him on the books for another 12 months, with his pedigree in the English game vital at this level.
Morgan Fox is another experienced defender who could leave QPR in the summer, with the 31-year-old suffering multiple injury setbacks this term. Whilst he’s made plenty of appearances over his 18 months in the capital, the Welshman would surely like to find minutes more regularly.
Struggling to find consistent minutes, it could be time for Fox to move on, with his versatility sure to be admired by some newly promoted teams to the second tier next campaign.
Danish attacking midfielder Lucas Andersen has featured in the majority of games for QPR under Cifuentes but has been impacted by injury issues and hefty competition for places.
Entering his 30’s, Andersen has seemingly seen the prime of his career disappear, and the R’s may lean more towards parting ways at the end of the season.
Jack Colback has been around the block in the English game for some time, featuring for the likes of Newcastle United, Sunderland and Nottingham Forest before arriving at Loftus Road permanently back in 2023.
It’s been a tough season for the 35-year-old with gametime, but the midfielder has managed to reclaim a starting spot under Cifuentes in recent weeks to make the Spaniard think about a new contract offer.
The R’s do have the option of a year-long extension at the end of the term, and could activate it if they think it’s a logical move.
Nathan Sheppard has watched on from the sidelines since joining QPR, playing as third-choice behind Joe Walsh and Paul Nardi.
