Referee Michael Fabbri has faced criticism from the Italian refereeing association for a penalty decision in Inter Milan’s Serie A loss to Roma.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report, however, that Fabbri won’t face sanctions from the refereeing chiefs.
Referee Michael Fabbri had a major decision to make late in the second half of yesterday’s Serie A clash between Inter Milan and Roma.
Giallorossi defender Evan Ndicka had appeared to haul down his Inter counterpart Yann Bisseck inside the penalty area.
The Ivorian had both arms around the waste of his opponent, dragging him back for several yards.
And considering that Bisseck was the wrong side of Ndicka, it appeared particularly blatant. The German looked to have a good chance to turn in a Marko Arnautovic header without the contact.

Bisseck appealed furiously for a penalty after the incident with Ndicka. And his Inter teammates joined him, protesting to Fabbri.
However, the referee was unwavering in his judgment, waving away these appeals.
Meanwhile, VAR Marco Di Bello did not intervene to tell Fabbri to have another look at the incident on his monitor.
In the view of the Italian Refereeing Association (AIA), though, this constituted a major error by Fabbri.
The Corriere report that the AIA chiefs have analyzed the incident. And they have come to the conclusion that it was a straightforward foul by Ndicka, and therefore a spot kick.
Accordingly, Fabbri has faced criticism for his decision. As has Di Bello who did not intervene on VAR.
Nevertheless, reports the Corriere, the AIA will not sanction or demote Fabbri as punishment.
This is because the refereeing association feel that overall Fabbri had done a good job in the match prior to that big penalty decision.
