The Foxes' fate was confirmed on Sunday with a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool.
Jamie Vardy has put out a frank and honest post to his social media accounts following Leicester City's relegation to the Championship.
The vastly predicted scenario is one step closer to coming true. Ipswich Town are now the only surviving team of the three that came up to the Premier League this season, following the confirmation of Leicester's demise thanks to a 1-0 defeat to soon-to-be champions Liverpool.
City have been embarrassing since Ruud Van Nistelrooy was appointed towards the end of 2024. They've only won two matches since the start of December and they haven't scored a goal at home since the eighth day of that month.
They've been nowhere near the standard of the Premier League, but, luckily for them, they are likely to be much better than the majority of teams in the Championship next season, so they'll have a good shot at getting promoted, again, in the 2025/26 campaign.
After Leicester's fate was sealed, Vardy, the club captain, posted a very raw message across his social media accounts. He admitted that the team hadn't been good enough this season, plain and simple, and apologised to the club's supporters for what they've had to witness throughout the campaign.
"At this point, I don’t even know what to say," Vardy stated. "No words I have can ever express my feelings of anger and sadness with the way this season has gone. There are no excuses.
"Collectively, as players and as a club, we failed. There is simply no hiding, and I refuse to entertain any suggestion of doing so.
"Having been at this club for so long, we’ve experienced so many highs and successes — and this season has been nothing but miserable and for me personally, a total embarrassment. It hurts, and I know you’re feeling it too.
"To the fans: I’m sorry. Sorry we haven’t performed, and sorry we end the 2025 season with such a s**t show."
Van Nistelrooy previously said that he'd be committed to staying at the King Power Stadium regardless of how this season went. However, after losing to Liverpool, he said that discussions with the Foxes hierarchy need to happen sooner than later.
They have been linked with Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl in recent weeks, who is also reportedly being chased by RB Leipzig and Southampton, as per, so it's clear that they are exploring their options.
Ultimately a decision has to be made. Whether they think Van Nistelrooy is the right one to take them forward or that they need to move in a direction, the Dutchman is right that time is of the essence.
Deciding who the right person to lead them forward is will allow them to quickly get on with formulating their recruitment plan, deciding which players are no longer needed and even what changes may need to be made to the coaching staff.
Vardy is out of contract at the end of this season. A big decision on the Leicester legend's future is one that also needs to be made, but should be made once the manager situation is sorted.
