After going behind after just 24 minutes against the Addicks, United levelled through Shania Hayles in the second half having peppered Sophie Whitehouse's goal all afternoon.

But the 28-year-old goalkeeper stood firm and pulled off numerous top-class saves to deny the Lasses, including two acrobatic saves to deny Beth Lumsden late on as United were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Furness was left to rue Newcastle's slow start to the game, but was happy to take away the positives from a dominant second half performance at The Valley.

"I don't think we started well enough and ended up conceding early on, but I think that gave us the kick we needed to get going," she said.

"In the second half, I think we dominated the game and came off the pitch frustrated that we didn't pick up all three points.

"We've got high standards for ourselves, and we've all said this season that no team has outplayed us in the league - we’ve just been our own worst enemy.

"We'll look back and reflect on the game because there are plenty of positives to take from it, especially in the second half."

Since returning from injury against Sheffield United Women in January, Furness has not missed a game and is savouring every moment in black and white.

The childhood United fan admitted that with every start and every appearance off the bench, she's feeling more comfortable and confident on and off the pitch.

"I feel better after every game that I play. I'm a ball-playing midfielder, and it's great to play alongside so many excited and talented players," she added.

"I'm quite composed on the ball and able to lead on and off the pitch and use all my experience by being vocal and helping the girls out.

"I'm loving my football at the moment and love stepping out there and wearing the Newcastle United shirt."

After picking up a valiant point against The Addicks, Furness was keen to send out a rallying call to all Newcastle United supporters ahead of Sunday's clash with Birmingham City at Kingston Park.

The Lasses are now preparing for their final home game of the season against the Blues, and the Northern Ireland international wants to put on one final good display in front of the Magpies' supporters.

"We've got one home game to look forward to, and we want to see a packed-out Kingston Park on Sunday and look to finish the season on a high," she said.

"We want to put on a show for our fans and say thank you for all their incredible support throughout the campaign.

"Everyone associated with the club wants to finish on a high and ensure we're bouncing going into next season."
