Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best players to have ever graced the game of football. Over the course of his career, he has achieved success at clubs like Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and more. Somewhat unexpectedly, it looks like he shares a friendship with one of Celtic's current players.
Kasper Schmeichel never played for the same club as Ronaldo. While his father might be a Manchester United legend, the Celtic goalkeeper actually started his career at the other side of town with Manchester City.
Since then, he has had spells at clubs like Leicester City, Leeds United, Nice, Anderlecht and currently finds himself at Celtic. Naturally, many people will wonder where the friendship with Ronaldo cropped up.
Well, they need to wonder no more as Schmeichel has lifted the lid himself. As reported by The Herald, he said while speaking to the Danish media regarding Ronaldo:
"I remember when my father was at Sporting, there was talk of someone coming up who was special."It was Ronaldo, of course, and I've played against him a few times for the national team. We've lived in the same town, and our children have gone to school together. He's a nice guy who's open and friendly."He is one of the best footballers who's ever lived, and I always look forward to meeting someone like him."I have a great relationship with him, but hopefully, it won't be so good tomorrow!"
Schmeichel will get the chance to catch up with his unlikely friend as Denmark will take on Portugal during the international break. It remains to be seen who comes out on top.
Both players are in the twilights of their playing careers and it is remarkable that they are still capable of playing at the international level. A lot of fans raised their eyebrows when Celtic went out and signed Schmeichel in the summer.
It is safe to say that he has proven that he is still capable of performing at the highest level during his time with the Hoops and already signed an extension. Of course, his performance against the Rangers at the weekend was not great but everybody has bad days.
