An extraordinary season so far for Jacob Murphy, with now six games remaining.

The lifelong Newcastle United fan living the dream.

Playing a key role in United lifting their first silverware in 56 years.

Now looking to help finish the job of ensuring Champions League qualification.

Jacob Murphy a real team player, as usual.

However, his personal tally of key moments this season, is just…wow!

BBC Sport reporting that Jacob Murphy has a higher combined Premier League goals and assists total this season,  than Phil Foden, Anthony Gordon, Morgan Rogers, Marcus Rashford, Eberechi Eze and Dominic Solanke.

These last six named players were all selected in Thomas Tuchel’s first ever England squad last month.

BBC Sport collating these totals of Premier League direct goal involvements:

As you can see, when it comes to direct goal involvements for English players in the Premier League this season so far, only Cole Palmer and Ollie Watkins have more direct goal involvements than Jacob Murphy has got with Newcastle United.

However…

What if you add the direct goal involvements in the domestic cup competitions?

This is what you get when it comes to the English players when it comes to direct goal involvements (goals and assists) in all domestic competitions so far (as at 18 April 2025):

22 (9 goals + 13 assists) Jacob Murphy

22 (14 + 8) Cole Palmer

20 (14 + 6) Ollie Watkins

17 (10 + 7) Morgan Rogers

15 (9 + 6) James Maddison

Thomas Tuchel has already shown that he takes no notice of the media and is prepared to make England squad selections based on form, not simply because players have been in so many England squad previously, regardless of how well or not they have played.

Interesting to see what Thomas Tuchel will do with his June 2025 squad, when England play Andorra and Senegal.
