Hasegawa wins Midfielder of the Year at Festival of Women’s Football Awards | OneFootball

Yui Hasegawa has been named Midfielder of the Year at the inaugural Festival of Women’s Football Awards.

The Japan international was unable to attend the ceremony in central London as preparations for our WSL encounter with Leicester continue, but sent a virtual message of thanks to those in attendance.

The event aims to celebrate women’s football from grassroots through to the professional level.

Hasegawa’s standout displays for City have deservedly received individual recognition, with the midfielder featuring in all but one of our fixtures so far this campaign.

The 28-year-old joined the Club in the summer of 2022 from fellow Barclays Women’s Super League side West Ham United and immediately established herself as a key figure in the engine room.

Scoring on her City debut against Leicester at the Joie Stadium, Hasegawa’s energy, quality and tenacity saw her deservedly named in the PFA Team of the Year for 2022/23.

She followed that up with another Team of the Year appearance in 2023/24 as City equalled our best-ever WSL points total, taking the title race to the final day of the season.

And this year, Hasegawa has once again been a near ever-present in a campaign which has seen the Blues ravaged by injuries to key players.

Widely considered one of the world’s best number sixes, City have played 96 times since the midfielder joined the Club and she’s featured in 92 of those fixtures.
