Milan confirmed their superiority over Inter in the fifth edition of the Derby della Madonnina, as they knocked their rivals out of the Coppa Italia. The two sides had settled for a 1-1 draw in the first leg, but Sergio Conceicao’s men were far more clinical in the decisive second contest, prevailing by three unanswered goals thanks to Luka Jovic’s brace and Tijjani Reijnders’ late strike. So here are our player ratings for Inter, whose Treble dream came crashing down following a heavy defeat at the hands of Milan.

Inter (3-5-2)

Josep Martinez – 5.5

The Spanish goalkeeper can’t be blamed for any of the three goals, but perhaps he was too hasty to rush off his line on the third goal.

Yann Bisseck – 6.5

The German was arguably the best Inter player on the pitch, making several key interventions at the back, even though Rafael Leao gave him a few scares.

Stefan de Vrij – 5.5

A shaky outing at the back from the Dutchman who was outmuscled on the second goal. Almost brought Inter back to the contest with a powerful header, but was denied by Mike Maignan.

Alessandro Bastoni – 5.5

The Italy international was uncharacteristically wasteful in possession, sending his crosses to the stands.

Matteo Darmian – 5

The veteran wingback was the main culprit on the opener, as he lost the aerial duel against Jovic. He had also wasted a golden opportunity to put Inter ahead early on.

Nicolò Barella – 6

The Inter vice-captain had his moments in the first half, helping bring the ball forward with some clever passing. However, he couldn’t help his team regain composure after conceding the first goal.

Kristjan Asllani – 5.5

The Albanian will be kicking himself for failing to make the most out of this opportunity. The young midfielder showed he still has a long way to go to challenge Calhanoglu for a starting spot.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 6

Like Barella, the former Man Utd man started on a positive note, and came close to scoring with a long-range shot, but his level dropped as the minutes progressed.

Federico Dimarco – 5.5

The Italian left-back almost broke the deadlock, but was shot crashed against the woodwork. Gave Jimenez too much space to provide the assist on the opener.

Lautaro Martinez – 5.5

The Inter captain worked tirelessly and had his moments in the first half, but lacked proper support from his teammates.

Mehdi Taremi – 5

The Iranian striker failed to inflict damage in the final third and looked indecisive at times.

Substitutes

Davide Frattesi – 5.5

The Italian added some energy to the middle of the park, but couldn’t properly track Reijnders on the third goal.

Hakan Cahanoglu – 5.5

The Turk saved the day for Inter in the first leg, but squandered an inviting opportunity this time around.

Nicola Zalewski – 5

The Polish wingback struggled in his personal battle against Alex Jimenez and had little impact on the right wing.

Marko Arnautovic – 5

The Austrian veteran tried to be the hero for Inter, but wasted the rare chances that came his way.
