Manchester City signed two promising young centre-backs during the January transfer window. Abdukodir Khusanov arrived from Lens and although he hasn’t played of late, he has shown that he has the makings of a quality centre-back. The other centre-back City signed was Vitor Reis from Palmeiras. The young Brazilian defender has only made three appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side. But his talent and potential are obvious. Now, a new report indicates that City have high hopes for Reis. The next steps of his Manchester City career will be interesting to watch unfold.
Brazilian football reporter Jorge Nicola has given an update on City’s thoughts on Vitor Reis. Nicola reported via YouTube that Vitor Reis was linked with a potential loan move to Flamengo. But Nicola revealed that this move isn’t in City’s plans for the young defender. Furthermore, Nicola revealed that Vitor Reis is highly regarded at Manchester City. He explained: “About Vitor Reis, I was not able to confirm with anyone at Flamengo about the interest in this athlete, but it is possible to rule out that Manchester City would agree to negotiate for him with Brazilian or South American teams.”
“If he does not stay there, he will gain experience and experience in another team in European football, especially because at Manchester City, they are betting a lot on the development and future of this player.”
Young Brazilian centre-back Vitor Reis was clearly a signing made with one eye on the future by Manchester City. He is only 19 years of age and has his best football ahead of him. The young Brazilian defender needs time to develop but he has all of the necessary tools to one day become an elite centre-back. Reis is strong in a challenge, and he reads the game exceptionally well. Physically, he needs to mature, but as he gets older and spends more time in the City environment, that will come. Vitor Reis is also a quality player in possession for a young centre-back so he has all of the tools to become a quality player.
As Jorge Nicola reports there is nothing to be gained from loaning Vitor Reis back to Brazil. The young defender would gain more from going out on loan in Europe. That way, he can adjust to the demands of playing in Europe, which would prepare him for a role in Pep Guardiola’s squad. It could be a possibility that Vitor Reis does spend next season out on loan. But there is nothing to be gained by sending Reis back to Brazil. As per Jorge Nicola’s report that doesn’t seem to be a realistic possibility.
Vitor Reis is a player who seems destined for a long career. He arrived at Manchester City as a highly regarded young centre-back. It’s now clear what City think of Reis. What their plans are for him for next season will reveal themselves in time. But it’s clear that he is thought of as the future of Manchester City’s defence as per Jorge Nicola’s new report.
