Speaking to Sky Germany, Augsburg goalkeeper Finn Dahmen spoke on his international future as he has still yet to feature at the senior international level.

Dahmen is eligible for both Germany and England, through his mother, but represented Germany at every youth level from under-16 to under-21. The 26-year-old was Germany’s goalkeeper when they won the 2021 under-21 Euros.

Although Dahmen has yet to have a conversation with England head coach Thomas Tuchel, he is open to one if the former Bundesliga coach makes the call and is also open to playing for England:

“I feel a sense of belonging to both countries. I don’t want to rule anything out and can imagine both. I would engage with it.”

However, from his words to Sky, he is leaning towards playing for Germany:

“It’s my dream to become a national player one day, It’s always been my dream. But it’s not that time yet. I haven’t been invited, so I’m enjoying the international break.”

Dahmen is currently on standby for this international break and is seen as the fourth-choice goalkeeper behind Oliver Baumann, Alexander Nübel and Stefan Ortega. The former Mainz academy graduate revealed that there was an exchange with head coach Julian Nagelsmann:

“There was a brief exchange. I know I’m on the radar. I’m happy about that.”

Dahmen is having a great season, after reclaiming his spot as number one for Augsburg he has gone over 600 minutes without conceding a goal in the Bundesliga. He needs to keep a clean sheet in the next three to four games to break the record of 884 minutes held by Timo Hildebrand.

However, with Marc-André ter Stegen to eventually return, the breakthroughs of Noah Atubolu and Jonas Urbig, and the potential return of Manuel Neuer if ter Stegen doesn’t refind his form (yes, you read that correctly, it is what Bild reported), Dahmen would have to assess his options, especially as England only have Jordan Pickford, Dean Henderson and Aaron Ramsdale.
