The international break is over, and club football picks right back up with the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals taking center stage.
Paris Saint-Germain are set to take on Aston Villa with a semifinal spot on the line. PSG come into the tie riding high after a dramatic Round of 16 win over Liverpool, which they clinched in a tense penalty shootout.
Aston Villa had a much smoother path, cruising past Club Brugge with a dominant 6-1 aggregate score. This matchup will carry a bit of extra spice, too—Unai Emery and Marco Asensio will be looking to get one over on their former club.
Nonetheless, there’s a report revealing how PSG will replace a key player for the first 90 minutes.
Marquinhos will be unavailable due to suspension for the first leg against the English. To replace their captain, L’ÉQUIPE (h/t Le10Sport) reports that the choice will fall on Lucas Beraldo, who already started against Dunkerque in the Coupe de France semifinal.
Despite a disappointing performance, Beraldo continues to be highly regarded by Luis Enrique, mainly because of his technical ease and quality in building from the back. These qualities even place him ahead of Lucas Hernandez and Presnel Kimpembe in the pecking order.
Both teams are coming off wins last weekend and midweek, with Emery and his team beating Preston in the FA Cup and Brighton & Hove Albion. On the other hand, PSG also secured two wins over AS Saint-Étienne and USL Dunkerque in the Coupe de France.
The two sides have one more match this weekend as they look to ride positive momentum into the first leg.
