Since joining Barcelona following Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s injury, goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has made an instant impact, maintaining an excellent record with only one loss in all competitions.
Under Hansi Flick, the former Poland international has been preferred over Inaki Pena, and his performances have played a role in Barcelona’s strong form.
The only defeat came in the UEFA Champions League against Borussia Dortmund, a match that had no significant consequences as Barcelona had beaten the German side 4-0 in the first leg.
Szczesny, however, remains grounded and modest about his contributions to the team’s success. In a recent interview, he openly acknowledged that a lot of the team’s victories have come from sheer timing and good fortune.
“I think a large part of it was coincidence,” he admits, without any false humility. “My contribution to the fact that we have not lost has been quite minimal.”

For Szczesny, the real credit goes to his teammates, who have been playing exceptional football, scoring freely, and showing impressive teamwork.
“The team is playing very good soccer, scoring a lot of goals. You try not to spoil it. That’s all. I was lucky enough to get in goal just when the team started winning games,” he noted.
Despite his modesty, Szczesny recognises that his role is still vital, particularly in certain moments during matches.
He explains that while he may not have directly influenced many outcomes, he remains aware of his responsibilities as a leader on the pitch.
“There are parts of the game where I think I can be a perfect example for the young players and for my teammates,” he shares, indicating that his experience and attitude can provide guidance and inspiration to those around him.
Szczesny’s humble approach to his success at Barcelona shows a clear commitment to the team’s collective goals, as despite arriving on a one-year contract, the Pole has made a strong impact in the dressing room.
