While Mika Godts injury woes have been a real frustration for Ajax in recent weeks, it has been reported that the solution could be closer than previously believed. Speaking on the VoetbalPraat show, ESPN’s Anco Jansen thinks Francesco Farioli should give Jan Faberski a chance on the left wing (via Voetbal Primeur).
The Amsterdammers are short on left-wingers after Godts’ torn hamstring. While the Johan Cruyff Arena residents have solved that temporarily by moving Chuba Akpom wide from striker, Jansen suggested young Faberski.
“He is a guy who can dominate one-on-one and can dribble,” the former footballer explained. “But he is used to playing on the right.”
The expectation is that Farioli will continue to choose Akpom, but Jansen wonders if that will work out well.
“You don’t have a real dribbler who can play on the left at the moment. Berghuis is coming back, but he has never played in that position; he is more of a midfielder or a right-winger.”
18-year-old Faberski has not yet made his debut for Ajax, but has been in the matchday squad a few times. At Jong Ajax, the dribbler has scored one goal and provided one assist in thirteen matches. Despite his teen status, Faberski has recently been capped by Poland’s U21 side.
